Straight to the point
New Electric fellow atmos It’s a great upgrade to our favorite coffee can for long-term coffee storage. We already love how well the manual Fellow Atmos keeps coffee beans fresh, and this electric upgrade to a tried-and-true product makes keeping coffee fresh even easier.
It is known that the moment you open a A bag of coffeestarts to deteriorate. There’s no way around it. Through a process called oxidation, coffee beans begin to lose their flavor and aroma over time once they are exposed to air. For people who are frequent coffee drinkers, this isn’t a big deal, as they’ll likely be dealing with a bag of beans in no time. But for casual drinkers who enjoy a cup of coffee here and there, it’s frustrating to have to throw away a bag of stale beans that you’ve only scooped a handful of times.
When we originally tested Coffee cansit’s becoming clear that vacuum sealed cans are the only ones worth using if you really want to keep your beans fresh for an extended period of time. Our best choice, Atmos Fellowkeeps your beans fresher for longer, and now comes with an electric lid that automatically pumps air to maintain a sealed environment without you having to lift a finger.
Tests
- Coffee taste test: We pulled an espresso shot right after opening a bag of coffee beans and after storing the beans in the Fellow Atmos electric machine for three months, and noticed changes in flavor and aroma.
- Ease of use: We noticed how easy it was to press, lower, and operate the Fellow Atmos electric.
What we learned
The new electric blanket is now easier to use
The manual Fellow Atmos is actually easy to operate, as it only needs a few turns back and forth to pump air. But the Atmos electric machine is even easier than that – after you put your pills in first, all you have to do is press a button, and it expels the oxygen. The cap then monitors pressure levels and automatically releases air without you having to touch it. To reduce the pressure when you want to remove the coffee beans, simply press the button again and it will release the seal. It takes just seconds to create a vacuum inside the case of up to 50 pKa, with a green LED flashing to indicate when it’s closed.
The battery, which can be recharged using a USB-C cable, also lasts a surprisingly long time, as we haven’t had to recharge it since using it three months ago. Other thoughtful design features make this case a welcome upgrade to an existing favorite case, such as an LED light that flashes any time you pick up the case to indicate seal status and battery level.
It works in the background to maintain a strong seal
Every now and then, you’ll hear a nice sound coming from the Atmos Electric, as it automatically pushes air out to maintain a proper vacuum seal, as it knows when to start to repressurize the can. This is especially convenient if you simply want to set it and forget it. Even with other vacuum-sealed enclosures like the manual Atmos, you’ll have to check in to manually repressurize the environment.
It really keeps the coffee fresh for months
After storing coffee beans in the Electric Atmos for three months, we depressurized the lid (again, with another press of the top button) to find the aroma of impressively fresh beans. The strong aroma was still there, and when we took a shot of espresso with the beans, the taste was almost identical to when we first opened the bag of coffee.
